Weed Wish You A Merry Christmas: A Holiday Gift Guide
by Ryan Harrington
Let’s face it: Weed is big business. And while it’s perhaps lost some of its edge, the upside is that it’s no longer hard to shop for the smoker in your in your life — especially the literary one.
To that end, writing for the the Spokesman-Review (Spokane’s cannily named daily broadsheet), Sarah Bain has helpfully rounded up the seasons hottest gifty weed—and weedy gift—books. Many of the titles can be found at purveyors as reputable and law-abiding as Barnes and Noble.
Some highlights include:
- Marijuana Horticulture: The Indoor/Outdoor Medical Grower’s Bible by Jorge Cervantes
- What’s wrong with my Marijuana Plant?: A Cannabis Grower’s Visual Guide to Easy Diagnosis and Organic Remedies, by David Deardorff and Kathryn Wadsworth
- The Cannabis Cookbook: Over 35 Tasty Recipes for Meals, Munchies, and More by Tim Pilcher
- The Stoner’s Coloring Book: Coloring for High-Minded Adults by Jared Hoffman
This small selection is perhaps most remarkable for its representation of specialty publishing categories that have enjoyed breakout commercial success in recent months: the self-help book, the cookbook, and the adult coloring book. It is perhaps most unremarkable for its lack of anything holding a candle (or lighter) to the R & D that went into last year’s Scratch and Sniff Book of Weed.
And may I suggest a few books that, while not specifically about weed, might speak to the weed set? Especially those interested in psychedelic music, tracking down illegal substances online, or far out fiction.
No matter your literary tastes, if you smoke trees there may just be something under the tree for you this year.
