We’d like to help you help us get Donald Trump impeached!
by Stephanie DeLuca
Do you smell that? No, it’s not the scent of the autumn leaves slowly decaying on the grass. More like the rot of the Republican party.
Okay, maybe that’s a little intense. (Maybe.) But you don’t need a weather man to know which way the wind blows, and after last week’s election, it feels like maybe (maybe) the times are finally a-changin’. If you need a pick-me-up, something tangible to hold on to and make it feel like the world may not be going to complete shit, I recommend reading and re-reading all about it. (Trust me, I know from experience — it’s an instant mood-booster.)
The point is, the resistance is here. And it works. And we here at Melville House are contributing to this movement in the best way that we know how: with books.
Earlier this autumn, we published Barbara Radnofsky’s A Citizen’s Guide to Impeachment, a straightforward and non-partisan guide meant to teach the average person exactly what impeachment is, including the precise rules of the process and their application throughout the history of the United States. Writing in clear, accessible terms, Barbara Radnofsky helps us understand what constitutes an impeachable offense, as well as the process of removing someone from office.
Around the book’s publication, we announced an initiative, designed to encourage readers to donate copies to all 535 members of the House and Senate. We’re offering copies to be sent to legislators at a discounted rate, handling all the shipping costs, and keeping a public list of all the lawmakers who’ve been sent copies.
As of today, we’ve got the senate covered, and a couple hundred congresspeople. It’s going great, thanks to the concerned citizens who have joined our cause, and it’s time to reach our goal.
To do so, we’re launching a week-long matching-donation campaign. Starting today, for every copy that’s bought to donate to a lawmaker, Melville House will also pay to send a copy. Everyone’s power to participate will be doubled.
Take advantage of this! The time is right. Impeachment’s in the air. Following Election Day, change seems possible. Tom Steyer is adding another $10 million dollars to his own impeachment campaign, for a total of $20 million in national messaging calling for impeachment. The Pittsburgh City Paper’s editorial board has officially called for impeachment. Rep. Al Green (D-Texas) announced last week that he will force a House vote on impeachment before Christmas. With every day that passes, as more information emerges from Robert Mueller’s investigation, more and more pundits are questioning whether it’s a road that ends in impeachment.
But for this dream to come true, we need our lawmakers to be ready. Let’s all make sure they are. To help make sure every federal lawmaker has a copy of A Citizen’s Guide to Impeachment on hand, click here.
