Stephen King’s satirical writing advice

In the spirit of Halloween, here are some funny and satirical writing tips from one of the masters of horror, Stephen King. In a video made and produced by The Late Show with Stephen Colbert, the advice starts out rather sensible and straightforward with King guiding writers to “show don’t tell.” However, his advice quickly evolves to making fun of his own books and writing style itself.

We’re particularly fond of King’s quip:

“To be a writer, you must be reading books constantly. Here are a few suggestions: The Shining, Carrie, Salem’s Lot, Pet Cemetary… you get the idea.”

Yes, we do get the idea.
