SLIDESHOW: Melville House at the 2013 Freshman Year Reading Conference
by Claire Kelley
The Freshman Year Experience Conference is in full swing in Orlando, Florida. University administrators who coordinate orientation activities and common reading programs are meeting in sessions to discuss strategies for counseling, retention, and community building. In the book exhibit, the big six publishers, plus independents like Algonquin and W.W. Norton are displaying recommended common reading selections.
In the Melville House booth, where you can find book stickers, our handstiched common reading zine, and a fold-out novella poster, we’re displaying five top freshman reading recommendations from our list:
Stuffed & Starved by Raj Patel
Every Man Dies Alone by Hans Fallada
Debt by David Graeber
Revolt on Goose Island by Kari Lydersen
Havana Real by Yoani Sanchez
For more information about these titles, download our common reading brochure here.
You can watch a highlight reel that describes each book here.
We’re giving away book stickers.
Five featured common reading titles.
