Remembering Anna Politkovskaya

Next week marks the tenth anniversary of the assassination of Russian journalist (and, posthumously, Melville House author) Anna Politkovskaya. Politkovskaya was a courageous and excellent journalist, among the most prominent critics of Russia’s Second Chechen War and one of the first to perceive the threat posed to civil liberties by President Vladimir Putin.
