Oh, God, a Mike Pence bio is coming

by

Nope.

O! What fresh hell is this.

Last week, John Maher reported for Publishers Weekly that Thomas Dunne Books/St. Martin’s Press is crashing The Shadow President, a biography of Vice President Mike Pence, for an August 28 on-sale — juuuuuust in time for Midterm Madness (and the publishing industry’s prime time fall season). The authors are Michael D’Antonio (The Truth About Trump) and Peter Eisner.

According to the press release, this “landmark biography” will interrogate Pence’s transformation from Catholic Democrat to “conservative evangelical republican” and examine the VP’s own longstanding presidential ambitions: “Pence’s drive for power, perhaps inspired by his belief that God might have big plans for him, explains why he shocked his allies by lending Christian credibility to a scandal-plagued candidate like Trump.” (“Scandal-plagued” being, in this instance, a shockingly delicate understatement regarding the President’s religious bonafides.)

The publisher is no doubt hoping that this will mark the third blockbuster for parent company Macmillan, which released the bestsellers Fire and Fury by Michael Wolff (Henry Holt) and A Higher Loyalty by James Comey (Flatiron) earlier this year.
