No Man’s Sky: An excerpt from DEATH BY VIDEO GAME

Sean Murray, one of the creators of No Man’s Sky, cannot guarantee that the virtual universe he is building is infinite, but he is certain that, if he’s wrong, nobody will ever find out.

“If you were to visit one virtual planet in the game every second,” he says, “then our own sun will have died before you’d have seen them all.” He smiles, conspiratorially:

“This means I can say that the No Man’s Sky universe is infinite and nobody could possibly prove me wrong.”
