Layoffs continue at Random House

by

Lest you think things have settled down out there: Late yesterday Hillel Italie filed this AP wire story saying layoffs had once again taken place at Random House as “the publishing giant continued its consolidation announced last December.” Both the Crown Publishing Group and the Knopf Doubleday Group announced “a wave of promotions and personnel changes” and, er, “confirmed” that that meant “some employees had been cut,” although how many employees, exactly, were let go was not disclosed. There was only one faint ray of good news behind this dark cloud: Spokesmen claimed there would be no further layoffs. Extra bonus: The AP report includes a component of informative and hard-hitting photojournalism: a posed, studio photo of Knopf spokesman Paul Bogaards.
