Happy 59, Lolita!
by Melville House
Today marks the fifty-ninth anniversary of the US publication of Vladimir Nabokov’s novel Lolita, and we’re celebrating by watching this video of Nabokov discussing it on Canadian TV, in a setting that… well, let’s just say TV no longer looks this. And is utterly devoid of people who say things like: “If you give to satire its initial sense of macédoine, of fruit salad, satira, then perhaps my dish is good enough for that purpose.”
Maybe mute the news circus for fifteen minutes this morning and let this happy madness live in your brain?
