Former Vice President Joe Biden and Second Lady Dr. Jill Biden Sign Book Deal

Authors hugging authors hugging future authors

As we near the symbolic hundredth day of our new administration, we can all relax as everything seems to be proceeding normally, and the gears of power are turning as if they belonged to the Rolex Yacht Masters dutifully clasped around the wrists of our diverse, experienced, and selfless public servants.

The former administration should feel free to relax as well. Historically, that means signing a book deal. The Obamas have already done so — with a sixty-something-million-dollar book deal with Crown.

Now, former Vice President Joe Biden and his wife Dr. Jill Biden have signed their own his-and-hers political book contract. The deal, with Macmillan imprint Flatiron Books, is for three books: two by Diamond Joe and one from Dr. Biden. The couple is represented by Creative Artists Agency.

According to Hilel Italie writing for the Associated Press, the books do not yet have titles or release dates. The deal is said to have made it into the rarefied echelon of seven figures.

Of at least one of the books’ contents, Italie writes:

Flatiron Books told The Associated Press on Wednesday that it will release two books by Joe Biden and one by Jill. Joe Biden’s first book will “explore one momentous year,” when his son Beau died in 2015 and his agonized decision against running for president. Biden has said recently that he regrets his choice and believes he could have defeated Republican Donald Trump, who pulled off a stunning upset against the Democratic candidate, Hillary Clinton.

If you’re more interested in that last bit, about Donald Trump and the stunning upset, make your way here. If you can’t wait for the Bidens’ books, remember that these will be the second books by the Second Couple; Joe’s Promises to Keep (2007) and Jill’s  Don’t Forget, God Bless Our Troops (2012) will tide you over in the meantime.
