David Cay Johnston cannot, will not stop talking Trump
by Melville House
Lately, we’ve been spending a lot of time catching you up on the comings and goings of David Cay Johnston, Pulitzer-winning author of The Making of Donald Trump, and for good reason — Johnston is an expert in ever-greater demand to explain the befuddling Trump phenomenon, and his book has been climbing up the bestseller charts since shortly after its release a few weeks back.
The past few days have been no different, seeing Johnston appear in a number of settings to talk about Trump and the personal history that underlies his dizzying — and, to many, bewildering — ascendancy.
He recently stopped by The Scott Sands Show on iHeartRadio, where he addressed a number of subjects, including Trump’s notorious “Second Amendment people” remark. “He is not a thoughtful person,” Johnston said. Listen to the full clip here:
Johnston also stopped by KCRW’s To The Point to speak with Neera Tanden of the Center for American Progress and Peter Navarro of the University of California, Irvine about the ongoing economics debate between Trump and Hillary Clinton:
The Conservative Tax Foundation—a group totally dedicated to lower tax burdens—says that Donald’s [tax] plan, to the extent that we know about it, is going to generate, over the next ten years, more than ten trillion dollars of additional federal debt. Donald’s plan, however, will be absolutely great for his daughter Ivanka, because if you have three, four, five, ten nannies taking care of your children, under Donald’s plan it would be 100% tax deductible — and therefore you and I would be subsidizing wealthy people who have multiple nannies. And when you fly them around with you—and you and I have been on planes where there’s nannies sitting in first class with little kids—that would all be tax-deductible under Donald’s plan.
