“Burlesque dance with a nerdy twist”? Sure!

by

Tampa arts nonprofit Wordier Than Thou is presenting its fourth “Banned Books Burlesque” to celebrate National Library Week.

For the Tampa Bay Times, Paul Guzzo reports that this year’s “syllabus” is still a secret, but previous themes have included Harry Potter and Gone with the Wind (neither of which made the ALA’s top ten for 2016).

Wordier Than Thou’s Tiffany Razzano also organizes monthly open mic nights, bar crawls, a Literary Dating game, and a Story Brothel in which she “rents” local authors to their fans, and has opened her own bookstore.

Watch their Facebook page for more events to come, and if you’re not in the St. Petersburg/Tampa area… consider hosting your own?

If you need convincing, here’s performer “Mayven Missbehavin” on a local morning show during last September’s Banned Books Week, explaining how banned books and burlesque go together “like peanut butter and jelly”:
