Blast from the past: Donald Trump, political thinker

With what’s set to happen tomorrow, we thought today would be a good time to revisit this very early glimpse of things that were to come. This piece first ran on June 1, 2011. A far simpler time.

Donald Trump has signed a deal to present his political philosophy in a new book,” according to this report on the Digital Spy website.

The book was originally “designed to add some intellectual heft to Trump’s light political resume,” as first reported on the site Real Clear Politics.

Though Trump has now announced he will not run for president, the book is still going forward. As-yet-untitled, it is scheduled to be published by Regnery Publishing this Fall.

Regnery Publishing is known for its long list of bestsellers from high-profile conservatives, including Michelle Malkin, Laura Ingraham, David Limbaugh, and Former House Speaker Newt Gingrich. Trump was quoted as saying, according to Digital Spy, “Anyone who’s worked with me knows, I only deal with the best, and for this book, that’s Regnery.”

“Regnery’s executive editor, Harry Crawford, has been tapped to take the lead in editing Trump’s new work, which will be heavily ghostwritten, with Trump playing a supporting role in generating content,” Real Clear Politics reported.

Regnery’s president Marji Ross touted Trump as a “remarkably powerful force in American politics.”

Trump’s 2000 book, The America We Deserve, articulated his pro-choice stance, his advocacy for a universal health care system, and his belief in a one-time luxury tax on the wealthy. So, this new volume promises to be of interest to those wondering about the development of his political thought — and, of his hair.
