PUBLISHING IN THE AGE OF BLAH BLAH BLAH
What do authors think about ebooks?
January 27, 7pm
Melville House Bookstore
It’s been hard to avoid: publishers, retailers, prognosticators, device-makers, and a world of geeks talking about ebooks. There’s only one character who never seems to get asked about the subject – authors. Melville House seeks to rectify the problem by hosting a discussion featuring eight great writers from Brooklyn (and this one guy from Chicago) talking about what e-books may or may not mean to them.
Featured will be:
Lev Grossman (The Magicians)
John Wray (Lowboy)
Myla Goldberg (Bee Season)
Joshua Henkin (Matrimony)
Heidi Julavits (The Uses of Enchantment)
Joe Meno (Hairstyles of the Damned)
Sarah Manguso (The Two Kinds of Decay)
Tao Lin (Shoplifting from American Apparel)
Come join us for the launch event of “Publishing in the Age of Blah Blah Blah,” a series of discussions on the literary e-future hosted by Melville House co-founder Dennis Loy Johnson.
$5.00 at the door / Wine, beer and snacks will be available.
Other upcoming events in the series will include a February 3rd discussion with publishers Edwin Frank (NYRB Classics), Barbara Epler (New Directions), and Dan Simon (Seven Stories) about the future of translation, and a February 14th, 2010 talk with publishers Colin Robinson (Verso, New Press, OR Books) and Richard Nash (Soft Skull, Cursor) about the indie publishing scene of the future. Future talks will cover the impact of digitization on book design, independent retail, and marketing.
