Bloody, bloody, bloodiest: the Moby Awards revisited
With the one-and-only book trailer award competition, the MobyAwards once again open for submission, it seemed as good a time as any to feature again the winners of last year’s awards. So dim the lights, maximize the screen, and let’s relive the highs and lows, the glories and gore of the year that was 2009… in book trailers.
The award for “Bloodiest Book Trailer of 2009″ went to the trailer for Killer by Dave Zeltserman. “If my enemies don’t kill me, maybe these headaches will.”
Easily as bloody was the winner for “Best Foreign Book Trailer” Etcetera and Otherwise: a Lurid Odyssey by Sean Stanley. A South Park-esque trailer, the video includes the dismemberment of Leonard Cohen and the decapitation of Michael Ondaataje. Margaret Atwood also doesn’t fare too well.
And speaking of blood, check out this trailer for forthcoming Melville International Crime title The Craiglist Murders, made by its author Brenda Cullerton which, if Melville House titles were eligible for the Mobys, would be a shoo-in for bloodiest book trailer of 2011. Cullerton’s crime novel is a razor-edged satire set amongst Manhattan’s ultra rich and their trophy wives. Warning: the trailer is not for the faint of heart.
